Pisa, Italy: The Leaning Tower

It's not every day you visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
We took a short train ride from Florence to Pisa, where we caught our plane to Paris. But of course we couldn't pass through Pisa without seeing its famous landmark. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a bell tower in Pisa's Piazza del Duomo, and it has been leaning since the 12th century. Nearly a millennium later, it's still going strong -- albeit with a little help. (From scaffolding, not from tourists pretending to "help.") (Not to say we didn't take a couple cheesy photos ourselves. You sort of have no choice.) It was actually pretty cool to walk up the tiny stairways through the crooked tower, and the view from the top was awesome.
We couldn't help ourselves.
And thus concludes our Italian portion of our European honeymoon. Hopefully I'll get around to my Paris posts and therefore finish blogging about our honeymoon soon. Then I can get around to blogging about that 2nd anniversary trip to the Amalfi Coast. But for now, regular blogging will resume shortly. As in, tomorrow. You're welcome :)

  1. It's so funny to look in the background of your pictures and see all the tourists taking the same "hold the tower" shots.

  4. Correction: not one of the seven wonders of the world. When you refer to something as a wonder, people (well, intelligent people) automatically think of either the Great Pyramid, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus, Temple of Artemis, Colossus of Rhodes, Lighthouse of Alexandria, or the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The leaning tower of Pisa is one of the seven wonders of the MEDIEVAL world, but not one of the original wonders of the ancient world; the wonders that everyone refers to. So I would change your blog post or at least clarify yourself in order to not look like an uneducated idiot.

Haha, not to sound all ridiculous, you know I'm just messing with you ;) ...........or am I?...........

  5. Kiken,

So, like I said: one of the Seven Wonders of the World. :) You and I both know there are multiple "Seven" lists, silly. And since the Great Pyramids are all that still exist from the "Ancient" list, I feel a bit safer not clarifying which list I'm referring to, because if I'm not in Giza, I'm clearly not at one of the Ancient Wonders.

  6. Ashley, just because the Great Pyramid is the only ancient wonder that is still standing doesn't mean that ruins of the others aren't still existing. In fact, you can still be at the site where the Temple of Artemis once stood in Ephesus, Turkey and see some of the pillars still intact. Therefore, you can still go to the other wonders hence proving your previous statement to still be inaccurate.
