We hate to miss a good party

Being a grown up isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Unfortunately, Matt's work schedule didn't allow us to make it to his family's summer getaway/mini-reunion in Utah this week. Matt and I felt bad that we weren't able to be there, so the night before Matt left for Texas we held a little family party of our own. We wanted to let his family know that we were thinking about them, so we did it in the most entertaining way we could think of. Matt and I checked out the reunion itinerary and did as many of their activities as we could... all while bringing the entire family along with us, of course!
Grocery shopping for our "Iron Chef" competition:
Beach volleyball:
A gourmet dinner:
Family Home Evening:
Challenge course #1:
Challenge course #2:
Talent show/guitar sing-along:
And last but certainly not least, cooking s'mores on the "campfire":
In one word? Yum!
This year's family reunion was almost as good as the real deal! We look forward to partying with everyone in person next summer, though :-)

  5. That is the funniest thing I have ever seen! Thanks, I loved it/. I can just see what people were looking like at the store with the picture strapped in. Perfect! And I'm glad you didn't come to Utah and not visit, we still have a double to plan when you do!

  6. ahh how fun! That is such a creative idea. Matt's family looks way cool , I bet they enjoyed this post especially! Mmm I <3 smores, I wish I had a stove like yours instead of the old school kind. Did anyone ask you at the grocery store why Matt's family was in your cart? hehe! Thanks for sharing :o)

  7. Oh, the grocery store was definitely the best part! I enjoyed the quizzically-raised-eyebrow looks very much :-) And the ladies that asked about it were so cute! "Is that your family?!" "How many of you are there?!" "Really?!" And then... "Oh, you're from Utah. I get it." :-) I didn't bother tell them that my family is actually bigger than his! Haha, I'm not sure they could have wrapped their minds around that many siblings.

  15. That is awesome! Hard to make all the family events but you guys did what you could to be "part" of the celebration. That is all you can do sometimes. Lucky for you that you live close enough to enjoy most of the family stuff! Fun evening, thanks for sharing.

  17. Loved this post!! We really missed having you guys there with us this week. Just not the same... :) So going along with you two was the next best thing! Clever! BTW - what did you make for your Iron Chef entry - and do you think you'll be able to steal the Golden Spatula Trophy away from Joshua next year as he defend his title. He won with his HOMEMADE potato chips. Yum.
