The First Year

Six days after Matt's graduation, we were married in the Salt Lake Temple on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. It was a perfect day filled with love and laughter and shared with our closest family and friends.

Of course, the big parties came that Friday and Saturday with receptions in our respective hometowns. Click here for pictures and here to see the wedding videos.

Having looked forward to June 2, 2009, for so long, it’s hard to believe that an entire year has already passed since that day. And boy, has it ever been a great one! Our life is shaping into one big adventure (isn't that how it should be?), and I'm so glad I get to share every little part of it with Matt.

We officially celebrated our anniversary a couple weeks early with a trip to Kauai. Last night, Matt and I enjoyed a lovely evening at home, complete with chicken cordon bleu, sparkling cider, and the top tier of our shockingly-still-delicious wedding cake. In fact, the cake was so good that I ate it for breakfast this morning. Yum!

As usual, I melted when Matt played the guitar and sang to me. I have the biggest crush on him! Then we watched our wedding videos and, just for fun, I surprised Matt with this video recap of our first year of marriage.

It was a great night :-)

PS: Did you catch a few teasers of Europe and Hawaii in that video? Watching it makes me excited to blog about Italy and France, but Kauai posts are coming up next!

  4. So Ashley I thought I would leave a comment to let you know I read your blog. I'm Mike Muhlestein's sister Andrea. You and Matt have done amazing things in just one year! I can't believe how much you've traveled and where you've gone. Hallstatt (spelling??) is somewhere I want to go now- and that opera house in Vienna. Wow. You and Matt are so cute together and I'm TOTALLY jealous you got to go to American Idol. My blog has recently been made private, but if you do want to see it my e-mail is on my profile. I wasn't trying to stop stalkers- just protect my husband's future employment opportunities. Can't wait to see Kauai!

  11. Is that ALL you've done in your first year of marriage? Yawn....So Boring! Come on you guys...live a little! ;-)

Holy Smokes! You guys have lived like 20 years in your first 12 months. What an awesome adventure you and Matt have had. It has been so fun to follow along on your blog. You are a very talented writer Ashley. You express your adventures in such a fun way that it feels like we are right along with you for the ride. This video is really cool. It inspires me to go on more adventures. I think you should change your blog title to read, "Usually We Go on Adventures"

  14. Hey - crazy. Why do you live in California? One, you can't even use your newly discovered snowboarding self to its fullest potential (and go with me weekly for that matter). And two, you're having way too much fun without me! Since when did you become the "fun" sibling? It really is quite unfair, not going to lie.

  16. Watching your video made me realize two things. One, you've done more in a year than I've done in my whole life. And, two, I NEED a vacation!! What websites do you use to find all of your amazing deals? I'm thinking something in July for my anniversary.

  17. To everyone: Thanks so much for your sweet comments! We have the nicest friends :-)

To Ryan: Your "usually" comment made me laugh!

To Christian: The fact that I didn't snowboard in high school does not mean that I wasn't fun then, too! Haha. Also, I live in California so you can visit me in the warm sunshine. Marks, get set, go!
