Jake loves birthdays. I mean, he
loves birthdays. No song elicits a bigger smile than "Happy Birthday" and few things bring more joy than candles and presents and parties. Luckily for Jake, this fall has been full of birthdays: his party, my 25th, his 1st, Matt's 29th, Kaleb's 10th, Christian's 19th, Matthew's 16th and Gabe's 6th. It's been non-stop celebrating around here! And Jake has definitely caught on to the routine.
On Christian's birthday, we did all the classic traditions. After opening presents, we moved to the dining room table where Christian lit the candles. Jake stood on the bench and leaned over to look at the cake. Then, suddenly, that cute little 13-month-old turned toward Christian and exclaimed "Happy Day!"
It was pretty much the most adorable thing ever, and thanks to the birthday celebrations, it was caught on tape! We obviously hadn't even thought of trying to teach such a young baby to say happy birthday, so it was a fun surprise that he came up with it all on his own. Jake proceeded to wish Christian an "Appy Dah" throughout the night, and then wished Matthew the same the next day when Matthew turned 16. And then, he was so pleased will all of his praise, that he decided to make every day a happy day. It's the first thing he says every morning (it's clearer now that he's older) and he says it whenever he's feeling, well, happy. Waking up to morning snuggles and a "Happy Day?" I can't think of anything better.
He kills me with his cuteness. Kills me.
